The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team put forth another dominating outing today en route to a 3-0 shutout of visiting Plattsburgh in SUNYAC action. The victory was the fifth straight for Oneonta and eighth in its last nine contests, as they seem to be hitting on all cylinders. The Red Dragons are a perfect 8-0 at home this season with one final home match remaining in the regular season next Saturday versus New Paltz.
The star of today's game was junior
Melissa Guglielmo (Somers/Somers), who has been on a goal-scoring tear over the last two weeks. Today she scored Oneonta's first two goals to bring her team-leading total to six on the season.
Guglielmo's first goal came in the seventh minute after she volleyed a crossing pass from the left flank by senior
Lindsey Doxtader (Oneonta/Oneonta) into the far left corner of the goal for an early 1-0 lead for the Red Dragons. Her second goal came three minutes later when she beat the Plattsburgh keeper to the ball and dodged around her before putting the ball into the goal.
The final goal for Oneonta came in the 67th minute by freshman
Erica Berry (Bellmore/Kellenberg Memorial), who scored her first collegiate goal. Berry headed a ball by the keeper that was sent from the right flank by sophomore
Elise Moinzadeh (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa).
The freshmen duo of
Kelley Murphy (Albany/Colonie Central) and
Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster) combined for three saves while sharing in the shutout today. Murphy picked up the win and raised her record to 7-1.
Oneonta will travel to Hamilton this Wednesday for a non-conference match beginning 4pm.
