Three players scored in double figures today for the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team as they cruised past the College of Brockport 59-59 in SUNYAC action.  Senior Samantha Szkotak (New York Mills/New York Mills) led all scorers with 15 points as the Red Dragons stay on top of the conference with the win.

Oneonta (10-5/8-1) saw its 11-point halftime lead cut to two points on a made three by senior Desiree Fauvelle at the 17:37 mark of the second half.  That would be as close as the Golden Eagles would be for the remainder of the contest as Oneonta asserted its dominance en route to the 20-point victory.

Senior Madison Slagle (Rome/Rome Catholic) and sophomore Kelly Mulligan (Pearl River/Pearl River) joined Szkotak in double digits with 10 points apiece.  The Red Dragons hit 17-of-25 free throws in today's game while forcing 23 turnovers.

Szkotak got things started for Oneonta with the opening basket of the contest.  Brockport junior Kelly Grinnell countered with a three-point basket to give the Golden Eagles its only lead of the game at 3-2.

Oneonta then seized control of the game running off 11 unanswered points en route to building themselves a 25-9 lead on a good jumper by senior Ashley Welytok (Amsterdam/Amsterdam) with 2:26 remaining in the first half.

Brockport freshman Phoebe Byrnes scored 11 points in the opening half including the final eight points for the Golden Eagles in the half.  Oneonta went into halftime leading 28-17.

Byrnes led Brockport with 14 points followed by junior Kelly Grinnell who had 10 points.

Oneonta will be in action next on Friday night when they will be Fredonia.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
