Women's basketball over runs Cortland 67-62

Oneonta remains perfect in the SUNYAC

The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team prevailed tonight versus rival SUNY Cortland 67-62 in SUNYAC action.  Oneonta got 18 points from senior Madison Slagle (Rome/Rome Catholic) and 14 points from Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford) as they won their fourth straight game.  Oneonta is now 8-4 overall and 6-0 in the SUNYAC while Cortland falls to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Crawford hit a pair of free throws that started a game ending 12 unanswered point run that led Oneonta to the come-from behind victory.  With the score tied at 52 apiece, Cortland appeared to put the game out of reach with a 10-3 run to take a 62-55 lead with 4:49 remaining in the contest.

Oneonta hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch including another pair by Crawford.  Cortland finished the game 0-for-6 from the field at the end of the game.

Five quick points by Oneonta including a three-pointer by senior Samantha Szkotak (New York Mills/New York Mills) gave Oneonta its lead back at 44-40.  Oneonta still held a slim two point lead for about three minutes before Cortland tied the game at 48 apiece at the 8:44 mark on a basket by Megan Touhey.

Two big factors in the win tonight for Oneonta were converting 21 Cortland turnovers into 22 points and out-scoring the host Red Dragons 16-8 at the foul line.  Oneonta made 16-of-18 free throws in tonight's contest while Cortland made 8-of-13.
