The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team lost its first SUNYAC game of the season today with a 55-49 defeat at Oswego.  Sophomore Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford) scored a season high 16 points, but the Red Dragons were outscored 18-7 from the free throw line, which proved to be a difference in the game.  Oneonta is now 8-5 overall and 6-1 in the SUNYAC while Oswego moves to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The game was close throughout with the largest lead by either team came with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game by Oswego at 40-33.  The score was tied seven times including five times in the opening half when the largest lead was five points by Oswego with 1:46 to go in the opening half at 28-23.  The Lakers took a 28-25 lead into halftime after a basket by Crawford.

Oneonta held a lead at three different times during the first half and came back to tie the score twice in the second half, but they were unable to go ahead of the Lakers in the closing 20 minutes.

Both teams struggled from behind the arc and the Lakers finished with a 42-32 rebounding advantage.  Oswego made 18-of-21 free throws while Oneonta converted on 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Senior Madison Slagle (Rome/Rome Catholic) was the only other Red Dragon in double figures with 12 points.

Oswego had three players in double figures led by Kayla Ryan, who scored 16 points.

Oneonta will be at home next weekend for back-to-back SUNYAC games.  Friday night the Red Dragons will welcome defending conference champion, Geneseo, to town for a 6pm tip off.
