The Oneonta State volleyball team opened its 2011 season today at home in the 42nd annual Oneonta Invitational and came away with a split of its two matches. The Red Dragons opened its competition with a 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19) win against SUNYIT before falling to Pacific University of Oregon 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 24-26, 22-25).

In its win versus SUNYIT, junior Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) led Oneonta with 15 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Senior Christina Fabiochi (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) added 10 kills and three blocks. Junior Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) (Gloversville/Broadalpin-Perth) led the Red Dragons with 37 assists while contributing nine kills of her own.

Boburka had 12 kills and 12 digs in the match against Pacific. Calvello led Oneonta once again with 29 assists while also adding 12 digs.

Oneonta will complete play in the Invitational tomorrow with two more matches. They will play Mount St. Mary at 10:00 a.m. followed by a match with St. Joseph's (LI) at noon.
