Women's Soccer battles #3 Williams

Red Dragons lose on the road to Williams College 3-0

Box Score

The Oneonta State women's soccer team dropped its second consecutive game in as many days on the road to Williams College 3-0. The game was played at MCLA as Williams' field was unplayable due to the recent flooding the region has seen.

Williams (3-1) took full advantage of their first real look at the net in the 12th minute.  Just past midfield, senior Nicole Steinquest (Hudson, MA) fired the ball from the center of the field to Samantha Vilaboa (Norwood, MA) on the left side.  Vilaboa lobbed the ball over Oneonta's goalkeeper, Amy Lusby (West Babylon/N. Babylon), into the top right corner of the net for the first goal.

With 22:33 to play, Brett Eisenhart (Seattle, WA) scored the second goal of the game when Vilaboa served the ball into the center of the box.  Eisenhart beat Lusby to the ball and tapped it around her to give the Ephs the 2-0 lead.

Oneonta (1-4) had several attacking runs from sophomore Kori Hamm (Burlington Flats/Edmeston) and senior Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and the Red Dragons finally saw a chance with just over 18 minutes to play.  Hamm took a direct kick from just outside the right side of the box.  She got it into the center where senior Jenna McCarey (Middletown/Middletown) was able to get a piece of the ball, but goalkeeper, Laura Wann (Palos Verdes, CA), was able to get a hold of the ball.

Williams outshot Oneonta State 17-7 including 10-4 in the second half. The corner kicks were even with 3 apiece for the teams.

Lusby made eight saves for the Red Dragons while Wann and Hannah Van Wetter (Lakewood, CO) combined for five and the shutout.

The Red Dragons are in action next Friday, September 23rd at 4:00 pm when they open SUNYAC play at home versus Oswego State.
