Box Score
The Oneonta State women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker today at Trinity College, 1-0 in the waning minutes of the game. The Bantams scored with 3:10 left in the game to secure the victory.
Oneonta's best opportunity to open the scoring occurred in the first ten minutes of play when senior Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) sent a ball in from the right flank that found the head of junior Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches). Unfortunately, Brantmeyer's header hit the crossbar and was cleared out by a Trinity defender before a Red Dragon could follow it up.
Oneonta (1-3) outshot the Bantams in a tightly contested battle, 9-8, and had some scoring opportunities late in the game, including a strong shot by senior Alanna Fisher (Suffern/Suffern) which sailed just high of the crossbar with 8:10 remaining.
Trinity (3-0) hit the crossbar earlier in the match, and missed two opportunities on a corner kick late in the match, one of which resulted in a save by Amy Lusby (West Babylon/N. Babylon), and another by an Oneonta defender off the goal line.
Trinity senior, Katie Giberson (Valhalla/Valhalla), popped the ball over Lusby after the ball was flicked on from classmate, co-captain Jenny Ley (Warwick, R.I./LaSalle Academy), to lead the Bantams to the 1-0 win.
Lusby made five saves for the Red Dragons and her counterpart, Lily Pepper (Princton Jct, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro), made two saves for Bantums.
Oneonta is in action again, tomorrow, Sunday, September 18, when they travel to MCLA to play Wiliams College at 1:30 p.m.
