Oneonta, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta softball team dropped two games of a doubleheader this afternoon to visiting SUNYAC rival Geneseo. The Red Dragons fell in the first game, 4-1 and then lost the second game 8-5. The team now must wait for Buffalo State and Brockport to play on May 2nd to see if they get to the opportunity to play in the SUNYAC tournament hosted by Cortland State next weekend, May 5-7.

Oneonta (17-20/8-10 SUNYAC) came from behind in game 2 to take the lead, but was unable to maintain it. After getting behind 4-1 after three innings, the Red Dragons were able to knock the Blue Devils' ace pitcher, Janine Montero (Deer Park/Our Lady of Mercy Academy), from the game with a single and two walks. Jillian Serraro, Stacey Donald and Katie Hackenburg all scored in the inning after getting on base.

The Red Dragons were able to plate a single run in the sixth inning to take the lead 5-4. Senior Laura Nowak doubled to left field and freshman Chandler Campbell came into pinch run for Nowak. Campbell advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kalyn Deso and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tricia Kendziera.

Geneseo (19-17/10-8 SUNYAC) took advantage of two errors in the seventh inning to put runners on the base paths. It was all junior KK Schaus (Williamsville/Williamsville South) needed as she took a pitch deep and put it over the left field fence for a three-run homerun.

Serraro finished the game going 3-for-4 with a double and Laura Loudis had two runs batted in.

Game 1 began with the Red Dragons down by two in the top of the second inning, as the game was a continuation of the postponed game from Friday afternoon. Geneseo was able to plate a run in the second and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead.

Oneonta's lone run in the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Senior Stacey Donald walked to get on base and advanced to second on a passed ball. Classmate Katie Hackenburg hit the top of the fence in center field for a double and scored Donald.

Montero pitched a complete game three hitter. She allowed just one run while striking out ten batters in the process.  Samantha Trapasso (Garden City/Garden City) went 2-for-3 with one run batted in and a run scored on a homerun. Jessica Steubing  (Fairport/Fairport) also hit a homerun in the first inning with a runner in scoring position.

Kendziera, Hackenburg and Korin Ditulli had the hits for the Red Dragons.
