Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Oneonta softball team got a solid pitching performance from junior Jessica Bartalsky in game 2 of a doubleheader split with Plattsburgh State in SUNYAC action today. Plattsburgh came into today's action ranked #15 nationally. Bartalsky went six and one-third innings allowing five hits and four earned runs while striking out seven batters in a 7-4 win. Classmate Jessica Iuliano finished the final two-thirds of the seventh to pick up her first save of the 2011 season.

Oneonta (11-8/5-3) got on the board early, as they were able to plate three runs in the first inning. After junior Meg Beditz walked, classmate Jillian Serraro tripled down the left field line to bring Beditz home. Senior Katie Hackenburg continued the inning with a long double to center field to score Serraro and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Hackenburg later scored on a single up the middle by Korin Ditulli.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Red Dragons were able to match their scoring output of the first as they plated three more runs to take a 6-0 lead. Beditz and Serraro started the inning off with back-to-back singles. With two outs, Ditulli singled to center scoring Beditz and then senior Stacey Donald followed with another single up the middle to plate Serraro. Junior Kalyn Deso followed with a third single in the inning to score Ditulli.

The Cardinals got on the board in the top of the fifth inning, but the Red Dragons quickly countered in the bottom of the fifth with a run of their own. Serraro reached on a fielding error and eventually scored after a sacrifice bunt by senior Sam Voncina put her on second and a Hackenburg single up the middle.

Plattsburgh would score three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 7-4, but that would be all they could muster for the rest of the game.

Serraro finished the game with a pair of hits, including a triple, while Hackenburg and Ditulli each had a pair of runs batted in.

In game 1, Plattsburgh (19-3/5-1) scored runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth en route to a 12-1 win. Sophomore Ashley Marshall (Malone/Franklin Academy) pitched five solid innings allowing only four hits and one run while striking out three.

Marshall, freshman Megan Price (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and senior Erin Jamieson (Adams/South Jefferson) all had two hits for the Cardinals. Price finished the game with four runs batted in and a homerun.  Junior Erin Florkiewicz (Warwick/Warwick Valley) also homered for Plattsburgh.

The Red Dragons lone run came off a Serraro homerun, her second in as many days.

The Red Dragons will be in action again Monday afternoon when they travel to Union for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
