ONEONTA, NY- The Red Dragons bounced back into conference action with two wins in the doubleheader versus Potsdam. Oneonta (10-7/4-2) relied on the arm of junior Jessica Iuliano who started and completed game one and came in relief in the second game to pick up two wins on the day.
In game one, Potsdam (6-10/0-4) scored first after Amanda Perry hit a liner up the middle scoring Heather Johnson.
The Red Dragons quickly responded in the second as senior Katie Hackenburg got the inning started with a double to center. After Korin Ditulli singles scoring Hackenburg, it was the freshman phenom Tricia Kendziera who singled through the left side to score two as the Red Dragons went ahead 3-1.
In the third, it was Perry again for the Bears, who scored to cut the lead to by one.
In the bottom of the inning it was Ditulli this time hitting a double as she picked up three RBI's scoring junior Caree Acre, Hackenburg, and senior Sam Voncina to pull away from Potsdam, 6-2.
Iuliano allowed only two hits in the final four innings of the game and held off the Bears in a 6-3 victory.
In game two, both teams' bats came alive hitting shot for shot battling for the lead.
Potsdam once again got on the board first off a Jenn Jones two run homerun in the second.
The Red Dragons answered back with a four run second inning after Potsdam had two errors and Oneonta playing small ball.
After singles by Hackenburg and Ditulli, sophomore Jamie Lukas reached after an error in the outfield allowing the two runners to score.
Kendziera hit a SAC fly to score freshman Chandler Campbell and Lukas came in after a wild pitch hit the backstop.
In the third, the Bears responded with their own string of four runs after Dana Vollmuth hit a two run homer. Perry scored once again for the Bears, and Brittany Pawlowski scored on a passed ball taking the lead 6-4.
In the bottom half of the inning, Oneonta scored a quick two as Ditulli doubled scoring Hackenburg and then later in the inning scoring herself after an error by the centerfielder, tying the game at 6-6.
Potsdam again took the lead in the fourth as they crossed the plate on a bases loaded walk, a single up the middle scoring one run, and a groundout to second to score three in the inning.
After two quick singles by Kendziera and senior Stacey Donald, junior Jillian Serraro hit a line drive shot to left center as the ball cleared the fence for the first homerun of her career to tie the game back up at 9 a piece.
In the fifth it was Kendziera who got a hold of the ball, hitting the gap in left center, and ending up with a three run triple to take the lead.
Once again, it was the reliable arm of Iuliano who held off the Bears only allowing one run in the final two innings after coming into the game from the bullpen.
The Red Dragons finished the double header with a total of 17 runs and 23 hits.
The Red Dragons will be in action again tomorrow when they will play in a heated conference action doublheader against Plattsburgh on Red Dragon Softball Field beginning at noon.
