Baseball still streaking with win versus Old Westbury

Red Dragons win ninth straight

ONEONTA, N.Y.—For the second straight game the SUNY Oneonta baseball recorded a shutout victory and, in the process kept its winning streak alive, which has now reached nine straight. Today it was junior left-hander, Corey Andresen (Deposit/Deposit) (Deposit, Deposit), who went the distance to record the complete game, three-hit shutout in a 4-0 win against Old Westbury. The Red Dragons are now 13-6 overall and have not lost a game since returning from Florida.

The Panthers, who saw their eight-game winning streak snapped today, fall to 12-11 overall.

Oneonta's first run of the game came in the second inning courtesy of a couple of Old Westbury errors, the second of which allowed designated hitter, William Rivas (Babylon, Babylon), to score. Rivas was the beneficiary of a throwing error by the shortstop to lead off the inning. Rivas was sacrificed to second by Cody Hitt (Boonville, Adirondack) and went to third on a ground out to the pitcher by Mike Mascari (Syracuse, Westhill).

In the fourth inning, Oneonta added a single run with some two-out hitting. Mascari hit a double to the fence and came around to score on a Dean Haussel (Sound Beach, Miller Place) single to center field. Haussel finished the game with a pair of hits and three RBI's.

The final two runs for Oneonta came in the eighth inning when Haussel hit a two-out double to right-center field to drive in Bryan Marotta (Clifton Park, Shenendehowa) and Hitt, who both singled.

Oneonta will be home again tomorrow when they host New Paltz for a SUNYAC doubleheader beginning at noon. The first game is scheduled for seven innings followed by a scheduled nine-inning game to complete the afternoon. The Red Dragons are currently tied for first place with Cortland with a 6-0 record in the conference.
