Full Meet Results
Host SUNY Oneonta won five individual events, but its rival SUNY Cortland won six and ended up taking a 128-115 win today in dual-meet action. The loss for Oneonta drops them to 1-3 in dual meets while Cortland moves to 3-1 as both teams enter the winter break.
Both teams had one individual win two events in the meet. Oneonta freshman
Kara Garbarino (Latham/Shaker) won both sessions of diving. Cortland freshman Krista Caputo won both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:04.58) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.52). In winning the 1,000, Caputo established an Oneonta pool record.
Individual event winners for Oneonta included junior
Kristen Magliola (Shoreham/Shoreham Wading River), sophomore
Melissa Erickson (Silver Spring, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) and freshman
Alyssa Brennan (St. James/Smithtown East). Magliola won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:18.25. Erickson touched in a time of 5:34.56 to win the 500-yard freestyle. Brennan won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.95.
Cortland's individual winners were senior Michelle Seeger, sophomore Chrisanna Hickey, juniors Jessica Evans and Abigail MacDonald. Seeger won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.20. Hickey won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.73. Evans took the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.36 while MacDonald won the 100-yard backstroke.
Cortland opened and closed the meet with two new Oneonta pool records. In the 200-yard medley relay they clocked a time of 1:53.72 while in the 200-yard freestyle relay the set a new record with a time of 1:44.33.
The Oneonta women will be back in action again in January when they host Skidmore at 1pm on the 17th.
