Women's Soccer wins third straight

Red Dragons go on the road to defeat Potsdam 2-0

Box Score

Potsdam, N.Y. – The Oneonta State women's soccer team went on the road today to defeat Potsdam 2-0. The win for the Red Dragons moves their record to 4-1 in the SUNYAC and 5-5 overall while the loss for the Bears drops them to 0-4 in the SUNYAC and 3-6-2 overall.

The Red Dragons got on the board just 1:43 into play when senior Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) blasted a shot past Bears goalkeeper, Dedra Palmer (Whitesboro/Whitesboro), off a pass from sophomore Kori Hamm (Burlington Flats/Edmeston) (Burlington Flats/Edmeston). Hamm got around a defender and dribbled down the endline on the left side before dropping the ball back to DeSimone at about the penalty mark.

Oneonta continued the pressure taking thirteen shots in the first half with five on them on the goal but were unable to find the back of the net. The best opportunity for a second goal came off a Hamm corner kick that found the head of junior Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) (Center Moriches/Center Moriches), but the ball hit the crossbar before being cleared by a Potsdam defender.

The second half was much like the first. Oneonta dominated the play and continued to pepper the goal. In the 63rd minute, the Red Dragons added an insurance goal. Sophomore Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) sent a driven ball in to the box from the right wing that was controlled by her sister Dana before passing it on to Amanda Regensburger (Selden/Newfield) (Newfield/Selden) on the left side of the goal. Regensburger buried the ball in the back of the net for goal number two of the game and her first of the season.

Oneonta outshot the Bears 30-1 and held an advantage in corner kicks, 10-0.

Senior Amy Lusby (West Babylon/N. Babylon) (West Babylon/North Babylon) didn't record a save in picking up her third shutout in a row. Lusby's counterpart Palmer made ten saves on the day.

Oneonta is in action again tomorrow when they travel to play Plattsburgh at 1:00 p.m.
