Plattsburgh, N.Y. – The Oneonta State women's soccer team finished out its weekend on the road with a 0-0 tie at Plattsburgh today. The two teams battled through 120 minutes of scoreless action.
Oneonta (5-5-1/4-1-1 SUNYAC) and Plattsburgh (5-3-3/3-1-1 SUNYAC) battled throughout the entire game. The Cardinals got off to a hot start and applied high pressure for the first twenty minutes of the game. Oneonta began to gain some momentum at that point and started to pepper the Plattsburgh backline. Neither team was able to get off any quality shots off in the first half with Red Dragon keeper,
Amy Lusby (West Babylon/N. Babylon) (West Babylon/North Babylon) registering the only save in the opening 45 minutes.
The second half was played much the same way, but roles were reversed this time with Oneonta coming the aggressor early. Junior
Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) had an opportunity to give Oneonta the lead early into the second half when she ran through a failed clear by a Cardinal defender and went one-on-one with the keeper, Alaina Greiser (Florida/S.S. Seward), putting it just wide.
A direct kick by junior
Lindsey Doxtader (Oneonta/Oneonta) (Oneonta/Oneonta) found the head of
Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), who was able to put it on goal, but Greiser made a great diving save to perry it wide.
Plattsburgh started to mount an attack of their own half way through the second when Leigh Metcalf (Baxter, Ontario/Bear Creek Secondary) played a ball through Oneonta's backline to Lindsey Keyser (Keesville/AuSable Valley). Keyser made a quick chop move to her right to get around the defender, but Lusby was up the challenge as she made the save on the one-to-one to put the ball wide of the goal.
The overtimes were played just as the first ninety minutes was, with each team having one good opportunity. Plattsburgh's best opportunity came in the first overtime when their corner kick found the foot of Macee Maddock (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville), who volleyed it on goal and was saved off the line by sophomore
Kori Hamm (Burlington Flats/Edmeston) (Burlington Flats/Edmeston).
Oneonta's chance came in the second overtime when DeSimone headed the ball of Plattsburgh's goalkick and found her sister,
Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), but she was unable to convert the opportunity.
Lusby and her counterpart, Greiser, each made four saves in the game.
The Cardinals held advantages in shots and corner kicks, 20-15 and 11-7 respectively.
The two teams went to penalty kicks to determine who would have the home field advantage if there was tie in the standings come SUNYAC tournament time. Oneonta won the penalty kick shootout 4-3.
