ONEONTA, NY – Oneonta Women's Soccer was upended this afternoon by visiting Fredonia, 2-1. All scoring took place in the second half of today's game with the final goal scored in the 74
th minute by Fredonia. The Red Dragons are now 7-7-1 overall and finished their SUNYAC schedule with a record of 5-3-1, which will earn them the number four seed in the conference tournament, which begins next Saturday with first round games.
Fredonia is 10-7 overall and finished 6-3 in the conference, which earned them the number three seed in the conference tournament.
Oneonta dominated the opening half of play firing 12 shots on the Blue Devils goal with Fredonia managing five in the first 45 minutes of play.
Forty-five seconds into the second half, Fredonia earned an indirect kick 25 yards out. Lyz Dembrow (Lockport/Lockport) served the ball into Oneonta's box where Shannon Letina (Clarence/Clarence) grounded the ball to the far right post.
In the 70
th minute, the Red Dragon offense battled back and capitalized on a scramble in front of Fredonia's net.
Sarah Glowa (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored her first collegiate goal off a rebound from a Blue Devils defender.
Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) had a shot that saved prior to Glowa's goal.
Four minutes later, Fredonia had a fast break opportunity and Reilly Condidorio (LeRoy/LeRoy) sent a through ball into the 12 to Katie Kleine (Cazenovia/Cazenovia) who one-touched it passed Oneonta's
Amy Lusby (West Babylon/N. Babylon) (West Babylon/N. Babylon) for the eventual winning goal.
Oneonta outshot Fredonia 19-9 and lead in corners, 7-0. Lusby tallied five saves for the Red Dragons and Meaghan Meszaros (Selden/Newfield) recorded seven.
