Geneseo, N.Y. – The Oneonta State women's soccer team completed the road sweep this weekend by defeating Geneseo 1-0 today on a cold and blustery afternoon. Freshman
Elise Moinzadeh (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) made it the perfect day to earn her first goal and points of her career in a Red Dragon uniform.
Junior
Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) collected a ball on the left flank and was able to send a low driven service into the six yard box after beating two defenders. Moinzadeh took the opportunity to step in front of her defender and poke the ball into the back of the net in the 53
rd minute to secure the victory.
The game was evenly played in the first half with Oneonta (4-5/3-1 SUNYAC) taking two shots to Geneseo's (7-3-1/1-2-1 SUNYAC) one. The best opportunity for the Red Dragons came when freshman
Meghan Mosch (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) was able to get open about 25 yards out and sent in a shot that was mishandled by the Blue Knights goalkeeper, Julie Sanger (Penfield/Fairport). Sanger was able to cover up the rebound before a Red Dragon player could get there.
Oneonta continued to apply the pressure after scoring the goal. Sophomore
Amanda Regensburger (Selden/Newfield) (Selden/Newfield) collected the ball just outside the left post and blasted a shot on goal that hit the side netting.
Geneseo's best opportunity came late in the game when Bre Glynn (Holley/Brockport) played a ball through the back line. Red Dragon keeper,
Amy Lusby (West Babylon/N. Babylon) (West Babylon/North Babylon), was quick off her line to make the save before Shannon Spusta (Macedon/Palmyra-Macedon) was able to collect it.
Oneonta outshot Geneseo 6-2 and held an advantage in corner kicks 5-1.
Lusby made two saves on the day for Oneonta and Sanger made four for the Blue Knights.
The Red Dragons are in action again next Friday, October 7
th when they travel to Potsdam.
