Oneonta State tames the Bengals

Red Dragons win 2-1 in double overtime

ONEONTA, N.Y.—SUNY Oneonta sophomore Ian Tenzer (Mahopac) broke a 1-1 tie in the 101st minute with his second goal of the season in the second overtime to lift the Red Dragons to a 2-1 SUNYAC win against the Buffalo State Bengals.

Buffalo State (2-7/0-2 SUNYAC) was first to get on the board early in the first half of the game. Andrew Dugan chipped the ball over the keeper in the 21st minute of play to give the Bengals the lead 1-0.

Oneonta State (5-2-2/1-1 SUNYAC) was quick to respond in the 30th minute of play with a goal by sophomore Eric Fortier (Pleasant Valley) who received the pass in the box from Nicholas Lange (Freeville) closing out the first half in a 1-1 tie.

The second half went scoreless as Oneonta showed its dominance over Buffalo State but were unable to score. In the game the Red Dragons out shot the Bengals 20-5, and had seven more corner kicks in the game. In the final eight minutes of regulation, Oneonta had three great chances to score but were unable to take advantage before time expired.

Oneonta controlled both overtimes not allowing the Bengals a single shot on goal. The game winner evolved after the Red Dragons were awarded a corner kick in the 100th minute in the second overtime. Sophomore Dan Scott (Salt Point) booted the ball from the right side short where junior Jonathan Kowalski (Glens Falls) headed the pass across the box to Tenzer who let the ball drop to his feet and sent it into the top left-hand corner of the net over the keeper.


The Red Dragons will be in action again Friday October, 1st when they will go on the road to face Geneseo at 4:00 p.m.
