Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park) scored with 29 seconds to go in the first overtime period to lift the Red Dragons to a 2-1 win today against Fredonia on the road. DeSimone took a pass from
Nha Wright (Schenectady), and drew Fredonia State goalkeeper Kayleigh Forger (Rochester/ Churchville-Chili) out of the box, lofting a shot over Forger's head that found the goal for the game winner.
Both regulation goals came in the first half. Oneonta opened the scoring at 11:26 as freshman
Melissa Guglielmo (Somers) scored from 35 yards out on a shot that floated over the Forger's head.
The Blue Devils returned the favor in the 32nd minute. Madison Brown (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) had a half-field pass to Taylor Wingerden (Macedon/Palmyra-Macedon). Wingerden beat Oneonta goalkeeper
Amy Lusby (West Babylon) one-on-one, scoring just inside the corner post.
Oneonta held an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal, and a 27-20 advantage in shots. They had six corner kicks to Fredonia State's three.
Forger was credited with nine saves, allowing both goals. Lusby had seven saves for Oneonta.
The Red Dragons improve to 5-2 overall, and 2-0 in the SUNYAC and will play at Buffalo State tomorrow beginning at 3:30 p.m.
