Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

The SUNY Oneonta softball team got a solid pitching performance from sophomore Jessica Iuliano (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) in game 1 of a doubleheader split with Union College today in non conference action. Iuliano went five innings allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out three batters in a 3-1 win. Classmate Jillian Serraro (Hopewell Jct/John Jay) finished the final two innings to pick up her first save of the 2010 season.

The game was scoreless as both pitchers held the opposing batters in check through the first three innings.
The Red Dragons finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth when junior Stacy Donald hit a double to right field to score pinch runner, Abby Pierce, from second base.

The Dutchwomen tied the score in its half of the fifth on an RBI single to right field by junior Callee Heywood (Innisfail, AB/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) that scored classmate Becky Gronczniak (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) from second base.

Oneonta (8-7) would scored the eventual winning runs in the home half of the fifth inning with a two-out rally. Serraro got things started with an infield single and then she was lifted for pinch runner, freshman Katie Kraus (North Bellmore/Kellenberg Memorial). Junior Katie Hackenburg (Queensbury/Queensbury) then singled down the right field line that allowed Kraus to advance to third. With runners at the corners, freshman Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose/Benjamin N Cardozo) singled up the middle to drive in Kraus with the go-ahead run. Hackenburg then scored on an RBI single to center field by senior Aly Helstrom (Montgomery/Valley Central). Hackenburg finished with two hits and two runs scored.

In game 2, Union (11-5) scored single runs in the first, second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings en route to a 5-1 win. Senior Ashley Kovac (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield), sophomore Erika Hillenbrand (East Berne Knox/Duanesburg) and freshman Samantha Chevalier (East Greenbush/Columbia) all had two hits and an RBI to lead the offense.

Senior Tiffany Ippoliti (Victory Mills/Schuylerville) picked up her fourth win of the season going the distance, striking out five batters.

The Red Dragons will be in action again tomorrow afternoon when they play at Alfred University in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
