The SUNY Oneonta baseball team easily swept a doubleheader from visiting Utica College today in non conference action today at Red Dragon Field. The Red Dragons won the first game 8-0 and followed with an 8-2 win in game 2 of the twin bill. The pair of wins put Oneonta over the 20-win plateau for an eighth consecutive year, which includes two seasons where they won 30 games.
Oneonta (21-8) put game 1 away early with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Utica (6-16) starter, Matt Zitt (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe), only lasted two-thirds of an inning, walking five of the 10 batters he faced.
Leading the offense in game 1 was junior #Jon Wolfanger#, who had a pair of hits while driving in three runs.
Sophomore #Corey Andresen (Deposit/Deposit)# pitched five strong innings allowing only three hits while recording three strikeouts.
In game 2, Oneonta trailed 2-1 at the end of the first inning before taking control in the home half of the second by scoring four runs. The big hit of the inning was a one-out double to right center field by sophomore #Mike Center# that drove in two runs.
Sophomore #Will Rivas# threw 5+ innings allowing five hits, two runs (one earned) while striking out four to pick up his second win of the season.
Oneonta will be in action again tomorrow at home when they host Southern Vermont for a single nine inning game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
