The SUNY Oneonta Softball team fell to 5-6 on the season and 0-2 in SUNYAC after a pair of losses to visiting Cortland on Friday afternoon at Oneonta's Red Dragon Softball Field. The dominant pitching performances of Katie Finch (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) and Lyndsay Rowell (Sandy Creek/Sandy Creek) of Cortland proved to be the difference. The rival Red Dragons also pounded out 24 hits while scoring 22 runs in the sweep.

The visiting Red Dragons took the lead and never looked back in the second inning of the first game, which they won in five innings, 11-0. Finch earned her seventh win of the season by allowing only two hits while striking out seven. Oneonta's two hits came in the form of singles from sophomore Meg Beditz (Troy/Troy) who finished the game 2-for-2.

Cortland's Cassie Kardias (Shrub Oak/Lakeland) went 3-for-3 in game one with two doubles and a triple while driving in three runs. Senior Emily Ringen (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and and a double.

In the second game of the day, Rowell allowed only two runs on three hits.

Oneonta's only offense was in the third inning when junior Sam Voncina (Derby/Lake Shore) started the Red Dragons off with a double to right center field. Voncina advanced to third on a single by junior Bethany Truax and both Voncina and Truax scored when sophomore Jillian Serraro (Hopewell Jct/John Jay) singled to right center.

The Red Dragons from Cortland got hits from Lorraine Stoddard (Liverpool/Liverpool), who went 3-for-4 with five runs batted in and Lucia Meola (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse), who finished the game with two hits and two runs scored.

Oneonta will play again Saturday, April 3rd at home against Oswego for a SUNYAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
