Box Score
#Mike Center#'s sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Oneonta State the lead for good in a 5-3 baseball victory over New Jersey City College at Vero Beach, Fla. on Tuesday.
With the score tied at 3, #Carmine Caputo (Mahopac/Mahopac)# walked to open the inning and moved to second on #Kevin Knack (Ghent /Ichabod Crane)#'s sacrifice bunt. After #Dan Randall (Salem/Salem)# was intentionally walked, Center drove a ball to deep center. The center fielder flipped backwards after the catch and came to his feet with his hand in the air to show he caught the ball and Caputo scored from second.
Randall, who had tagged and gone to second on the play, scored when #Steve Gauck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa)#'s singled to make it 5-3. Gauck finished 2-for-3.
"It was a great game," said O-State coach Rick Ferchen, whose team improved to 5-0. "New Jersey City College doesn't sound like a great name as far as college baseball goes, but they have some very talented athletes. It was a good school for us to play."
Randall finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including a home run.
The Red Dragons play Emory & Henry College (Va.) at 10:30 a.m. today.
