Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team lost a hard fought game, 1-0 to Oneonta, Wednesday night at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 6-6-2, while the Red Dragons improve to 9-3-2.
Junior
Jonathan Kowalski (Glens Falls) scored the game's lone goal at the 56:02 mark after sophomore
Jeff Christian (Middletown) beat the defender along the baseline and sent a pass through the box to set up Kowalski for his fourth goal of the season and eventual game-winner.
Skidmore's best scoring opportunity came just minutes before Oneonta's goal when Diego Reinero (Princeton, N.J.) blasted a shot from the top of the box was saved and Matt Kelsey's (Cambridge, Mass.) header from in the box went just high of the crossbar.
The Thoroughbreds had another chance in the 90th minute as Doug Yeates (Richmond, Vt.) appeared to set up Kelsey for a 1-on-1 with the keeper but Skidmore was called for offsides, suffering a tough 1-0 loss.
Nick Peterson (West, Hartford, Conn.) made two saves in the first half, while Steve Vasquez (Central Falls, R.I.) allowed one goals on three shots for the Thoroughbreds.
For the Red Dragons,
Giancarlo Colasanti (Ottawa) made the start, stopping two shots in the first half and
Maxwell Siegelman (Roslyn Heights) made three saves in the second half to earn the win.
Both teams recorded 12 shots and were also even on corners at two apiece.
Oneonta will be home this Saturday for a match against Hobart beginning at 2:00 p.m.
