Red Dragons clinch SUNYAC regular season title

Box Score Box Score

The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team clinched its 11th consecutive SUNYAC regular season championship with a convincing 4-0 win today against Oswego in a game that was played at the National Soccer Hall of Fame due to heavy rains leaving standing water on its home field.  The Red Dragons entered today's contest needing to win to clinch the conference regular season championship and the top seed and host site.  Three second half goals in the first 16 minutes put the game out of reach for Oswego (7-9-1).
Oneonta (11-3-3) will now host the conference semifinals and championship game on campus on Nov. 6-7.  The opening game, which Oneonta will play in, is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start followed by a second game at 1:30 p.m.  The championship game will take place on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Oneonta got goals from four different players today in the win and two assists from junior Nha Wright (Schenectady/Duanesburg). The Red Dragons took a 1-0 lead late in the second half on a corner kick.  Wright got her first assist of the match sending a ball into the box where sophomore Brittney Reilly (LaGrangeville/Arlington) was able to one-touch past Holly Lyndaker (Copenhagen/Copenhagen).
Early Second half goals by senior Beth Cherry (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge), freshman Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) and junior Caitlin Burke (Manorville/Center Moriches) put the game out of reach of Oswego. Cherry's goal came on a restart for Oneonta.  Brantmeyer broke away alone and dodged the keeper for her score while Burke's goal was set up by a great hustle play by senior
Lauren McGee (Old Bethpage/John F. Kennedy), who took the ball off the end line to get a pass in front to Burke, who broke free from the Oswego defense.
Oneonta will closeout the regular season at home this coming Tuesday when they host nationally ranked Ithaca College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
