SUNY Oneonta Cruises Past Sage College

Red Dragons sweep Gators on Dig Pink night

Box Score      The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team easily swept through visiting Sage College this evening in non-conference action.  The Red Dragons won, 25-16, 25-13, 25-8 to move to one game above the .500 mark at overall while the Gators fall to 8-14.
     Freshman Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) continued her strong rookie season leading Oneonta with 10 kills to go with two blocks.  Classmate Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) fueled the attack with 32 assists.
     Sophomore Jessica Zerega (New City/Clarkstown) led the defense with 17 digs to go with her four aces.  Classmate Christina Fabiochi (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) led the Red Dragons with five aces. Junior Megan Boeltz (Greene/Greene) (Greene/Greene) led Oneonta with five blocks.
     Sage College was led by junior Sarah Peacock (Duanesburg/Duanesburg), who had six kills and four digs.
     Tonight's match was also Oneonta's second annual "Dig Pink" event, which is part of a nationwide breast cancer awareness rally.  Hundreds of Colleges and high school teams across the country will participate this year to help raise awareness about breast health education as well as raise funds in the fight to eradicate the
disease that afflicts some many women in the U.S. and around the world.
     Last year Oneonta raised over $1,000 and this year's goal is to raise $1,500.

     Oneonta will have the weekend off before getting back in action next Tuesday evening, Oct. 20, when they will host Ithaca for a match beginning at 6:00 p.m.
