Oneonta head men’s basketball coach Cameron Conover has announced the addition of Luke Van Slyke to his staff for the 2025-26 season.
"Luke has a strong passion for basketball and will impact our program in a positive manner. We are thrilled to add him to our staff and he comes highly recommended and has already hit the ground running," said Conover. Van Slyke will be involved in all facets of the program with a primary emphasis on recruiting and player development."
Most recently, Van Slyke began building his coaching resume as an assistant coach for the Canajoharie Varsity Basketball Team during the 2024–25 season and is also a coach within the KaliKai Warriors AAU program.
Van Slyke had a standout collegiate career at Oswego State, where he helped lead the program to an impressive 100 career wins. During his time with the Lakers, he played a key role in two SUNYAC championships, including an undefeated 18-0 conference season in 2023–24. His teams also posted strong SUNYAC records of 17-1 in both 2022–23 and 2021–22. He was part of three NCAA Tournament appearances, with the Lakers advancing to the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Round of 32 in consecutive years.
Following graduation in 2024 with a degree in Mathematics and minors in Mathematics and Athletic Coaching, Van Slyke continued his basketball career by playing semi-professionally with the Herkimer Originals during the 2024–25 season. He averaged 21.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game.
