Sergeant Leonard returns for his third season with the wrestling coaching staff, and has served on the NYS University Police Force at Oneonta for 16 years.
Sergeant Leonard was a standout wrestler at Chenango Forks High School prior to earning his Criminal Justice degree from SUNY Brockport in 1998. Leonard is a Technical Sergeant, Certified Police Instructor, Certified Police Defensive Tactics, holds certifications in use of pepper and impact weapons, Tactics Instructor-Lead Defensive Tactics Instructor for Otsego County Law Enforcement Academy.
Sergeant Leonard has a very extensive defensive tactics background through both law enforcement and mixed martial arts training. He has served as an Instructor at Police Academies in Broome, Otsego, Delaware, and Herkimer Counties.
In 2012, Sergeant Leonard was the recipient of the Award for Valor from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in Reno, NV and the Real Heroes Law Enforcement Award from the American Red Cross.
Sergeant Leonard is a highly competitive Power lifter, having held two NYS records for Deadlift in two different Federations in age and weight class. Coach Leonard resides in Milford, NY with his wife Melissa and two children Hunter, and Avery.
