Dave Ranieri

The women's soccer program at SUNY Oneonta began as a club team in 1984. Ranieri was the first coach. He was the foundation of the program and the only coach to see the varsity program from its roots to its national prominence.   He’s been around for its first Conference Championship (1997), its first and only National Championship (2003) and its National record of 101 games unbeaten in the SUNYAC conference.

His coaching and recruiting prowess led the team to the college's first team national championship in 2003 and 12 consecutive NCAA appearances. He has taken teams to England, France, Brazil, and Bermuda during his tenure as well as several states in the continental US.

Ranieri graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a degree in Business Economics in 1982. Dave was an All-Conference, four year standout defender for the Division I Red Dragons. He was inducted in to the SUNY Oneonta Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.  David also received four gold and two silver medals while participating on the Central Region Open Soccer Team at the Empire State Games for 10 years.

Ranieri received his Master of Science degree in public administration from Russell Sage College in 1996. He has been awarded the National Advanced and Premier Coaching diplomas from the NSCAA.

David is the founding director of the Headwaters Soccer Club. The club just finihed it’s 24th year of offering camps and clinics to the area youth surrounding the Oneonta community. Annually, there are more than 1,100 soccer players that attend the Headwater camps.

Dave and his wife Tracey, the current SUNY Oneonta Athletic Director, coached the women's soccer team together from 1992-2006. They reside in Oneonta.
