Paranya is in his third year as volunteer high jump coach. He has also spent 27 years coaching high jumpers at nearby Sidney High School and, recently, high jumpers at Bainbrdge-Guilford High School. He has coached one All-American at Oneonta, Kacy Boburka, as well as one NY State Federation champion, four state Division II champions, and numerous Section IV champions in the high jump at Sidney.
As an athlete, Paranya ran middle distance and cross country in high school, college and the Marine Corps. A high school All-American at 880yds, he went on in college to win two IC4A mile titles and twice placed in the NCAA Division I mile finals.
He received his Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, an MAT from Harvard University and his EdD from the University of Massachusetts. He recently retired after 21 years as an Elementary School Principal in the Sidney, NY CSD.
