Cruz enters his first season as an assistant coach for the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons. His primary duties will include working as the hitting coach, and defensive work with the outfielders. In 2016, he served the team as a volunteer student assistant.
In his collegiate career Cruz was an outfielder for the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons from 2014-2015. In 2015, he led the team in every offensive category with a .354 batting average including eight doubles, two triples, and three home runs; drove in 22 runs, scored 13, and stole nine bases; in the field he recorded 57 putouts, four assists, and no errors.
Prior to him joining Oneonta, Cruz played at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY shortly before transferring to Nassau Community College. He was a two-year captain for the NCC Lions, who would go on to capture two regional championships in 2012 & 2013. He was also a participant in the JUCO College World Series in 2012 & 2013. In 2013, Cruz took home 1st Team honors for the Region XV Tournament and College World Series.
Cruz has just completed his bachelor’s degree in Biology at SUNY Oneonta. He is currently pursuing a CSCS certification through the NSCA.
Cruz also works at Batting 1000 Baseball Academy on Long Island, NY where he coaches high school travel teams while working as a hitting instructor.
