Apr. 19th at Plattsburgh, W 10-0 (5); W 9-1 (5)

The SUNY Oneonta softball team continued their hot bats as they combined for 19 runs in last Saturday's games at Plattsburgh by scores of 10-0 and 9-1 played at South Acres Park.

The Red Dragons relied on the long ball in the first game with all 10 runs coming off three swings. Lichtenstein and Whittam each went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Lichtenstein hit two home runs to finish game one with seven RBIs.

After two scoreless innings, Whittam led off the top of the third with a single up the middle before stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball. A two-out walk to Rivera set up a double steal that allowed Whittam to score the Red Dragons' first run. With Rivera on second, Marzillo to the plate and sent the ball over the center field fence to give Oneonta a 3-0 lead.

Oneonta opened the fourth inning with three straight singles before the Cardinals a relief pitcher for the starter. After two quick outs, Lichtenstein stepped in and hit a three-run home run to extend the Red Dragons' lead to 6-0.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Lichtenstein struck again in the top of the fifth with a grand slam to clear the bases and make it a 10-0 game.

Oneonta rookie DeAngelis held the Cardinals to two hits, both singles. DeAngelis walked one and struck out two in the complete-game shutout.

Game two was cruising along as the two teams were scoreless through three innings but the wheels fell off in the fourth as Oneonta plated nine runs on nine hits en route to a 9-1 win in five innings over the Cardinals.

Marzillo and Marlene Cuevas (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) hit back-to-back doubles in the top of fourth to get Oneonta's offense going. Cuevas scored on a passed ball to give Oneonta a 2-0 lead before an RBI double by Paolino signaled the end of Sam Moss' day. Anderson came in to relieve Moss, but was unable to minimize the damage as Whittam reached on an error and Brocco doubled to left center to bring in two more runs. The Red Dragons crossed the plate four more times in the inning before Anderson got O'Gorman to pop out to the shortstop to end the inning.

Nicole Chiarello broke up Oneonta's no-hit bid in the bottom of the fourth with a double to right center and Brittany Marshall followed with an infield single to put runners on the corners.
