The SUNY Oneonta men's track & field squad battled to the end, but came up two points short of the SUNYAC team title to rival SUNY Cortland.  Oneonta scored 198 points while Cortland scored 200 points, as both teams were well ahead of the other six teams that were competing.

In all, Oneonta won a total of five individual SUNYAC titles while the 4x100m relay captured a conference championship as well.  The Red Dragons had 15 individual medalists while both relays earned medals.

Leading the way for Oneonta was senior Sean Bernstein (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), who successfully defended his conference titles in the 100m and 200m dashes.  He also ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay that won as well in a school and conference meet record time of 41.22.  The time currently sits as the third fastest time recorded in Division III this spring.

Rounding out the foursome that won the 4x100m relay was a trio of freshmen, which included Joe Carr (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Jake Alviene (East Greenbush/Columbia) and Thomas Wheeler (Rocky Point/Rocky Point).  Carr, who scored the second most points on the track for the meet right behind Bernstein, medaled in the 100m (3rd), 200m (2nd) and both relays.

Wheeler also earned a second medal with his third place finish in the 400m hurdles, which was won by classmate, Steve Kuznia (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs), in a time of 54.71.  Kuznia also medaled in the 100m high hurdles with a third place finish.

Claiming their first conference outdoor titles were sophomores Patrick Weinert (Schenevus/Schenevus) and J.D. Roth (Pearl River/Nanuet) in the throws.  Weinert won the hammer throw with a school record throw of 54.95m (180'3”).  Weinert also placed eighth in the javelin.

Roth had a solid all-around two days in the throws, scoring points in two of the four throwing events.  He claimed the SUNYAC crown in the shot put with a distance of 15.15m (49'8 1/2”).  He also placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.47m (168'10”).

Rounding out the athletes that medaled for Oneonta included, senior Chris Harvey (Kings Park/Kings Park), junior Joe Fox (West Nyack/Clarkstown South), sophomores Bobby Gallant (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville), David Bohunicky (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell), Michael Clancy (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River) and Charles Remillard (Peru/Peru) and freshmen Jim Bernstein (Grahamsville/Tri-Valley) and Micah Paterson.

Harvey earned his medal with his second place finish in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 9:28.74.

Bernstein and Remillard earned their medals with second and third place finishes respectively in the 10000m run on Friday night.

Paterson, Gallant and Bohunicky earned their medals as part of the 4x400m relay that took second place overall in a time of 3:19.47.
