Men’s Track & Field

Apr. 5th at SUNY Cortland Invitational
The SUNY Oneonta men’s track & field team overcame cold and windy conditions last Friday and remained hot, as they competed in the SUNY Cortland Invitational.  The Red Dragons had multiple school records broken and many athletes set personal best marks, as the teams set their sights on the conference championships, which is three weeks away.

In all, there were four school records set on the men's side while the women had huge PR's and top finishes on the day.  The squad also had athletes reach SUNYAC and ECAC qualifying marks.

As has been the case all year long, the throwers and sprinters continue to set marks each week that go farther and faster than previous weeks.  It was the trio of junior Joe Fox (West Nyack/Clarkstown South) and sophomores J.D. Roth (Pearl River/Nanuet) and Patrick Weinert (Schenevus/Schenevus) that led the throwers while the foursome of senior Sean Bernstein (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and freshmen Joe Carr (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Thomas Wheeler (Rocky Point/Rocky Point) and Jake Alviene (East Greenbush/Columbia) that set a new mark in the 4x100 relay.

Roth, who set the school record last week in the hammer throw, eclipsed the 53-meter mark in toping all collegiate competitors at the meet.  His distance of 53.07m (174' 1”) was nearly one foot passed his mark from last week while also qualifying him for the Penn Relays.

Fox, who didn't compete in Oneonta's outdoor opener last week, set a new mark in the shot put.  In winning the event, he broke the mark set by Roth last week with a new distance of 15.22m (49' 11 1/4”), which is over one foot farther than Roth's mark.

Weinert's mark came in the discus throw, where he set a new school record last week.  Weinert's new mark is 43.03m (141' 2”), which is nearly one-half foot farther than last week's mark.

The 400m relay foursome clocked a time of 41.85 in winning the event outright.  Their time currently is tied for the fourth fastest time of the season in Division III.

Carr and Wheeler were also 1-2 in the 200m dash with times of 22.73 and 22.96 respectively into a head wind.  Carr was also second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.38, which was right behind Bernstein, who ran 11.18 to win the event.

Sophomore Charles Remillard (Peru/Peru), who was the SUNYAC indoor champion in the 3,000m run, was the top collegiate (2nd overall) finisher in the 10,000m run in a time of 32:55.25.

Freshman Steve Kuznia (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) doubled up yesterday with wins in both the 110m high hurdles and the 400m hurdles with times of 16.27 and 55.94 respectively.
