Men’s Basketball (4-20/3-14 SUNYAC)
Feb. 8th vs. Fredonia, W 79-67
The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team sewed this one up early last Friday, as they routed visiting Fredonia 79-67. The Red Dragons led by as many as 26 points in the second half before emptying the bench to handle the final five minutes of the contest.
Sophomore
Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) scored 19 of his game high 26 points in the opening half when Oneonta raced out to a 45-31 lead. The Red Dragons shot 57 percent from the field in the first half including 7-of-13 from long range.
Junior
Dan Lee (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) and freshman
Jack Dignan (Brewster/Brewster) also reached double figures tonight for Oneonta with 10 points apiece.
Feb. 9th vs. Buffalo State, W 72-67
The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball completed its weekend sweep in the SUNYAC with a 72-67 home win last Saturday against Buffalo State. Four players scored in double figures for Oneonta led by sophomore Mager's 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Oneonta built itself a 42-26 halftime lead thanks to five three-pointers. Mager scored 19 of his 26 in the opening half, which included four of Oneonta's five from long distance. The Red Dragons began to create some space late in the first half, when they broke open a three-point game with 10 minutes to go. A pair of free throws by sophomore
Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) gave Oneonta a 12-point lead with just under six minutes remaining in the opening half.
Kelly finished the game with 14 points, eight assists and three steals. He also made 10-of-16 free throws including 4-of-6 down the stretch.
Oneonta had a 12-point lead at the 13:10 mark of the second half before a 12-2 run by Buffalo State cut the lead to two points with 10:18 left in the contest. A jumper made the score 53-51. Epps finished the game with 15 points.
It was still a three-point game with 7:34 to go when Oneonta opened up some breathing room on baskets by Mager and freshman
Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane). Zuvic scored eight points in the second half and finished the game with 10 points to go with eight rebounds.
Free throws down the stretch for Oneonta allowed them to build its lead back to 10 points with 42 seconds remaining.
Senior Jake Simmons, who had 19 points, led Buffalo State today. In the game, Simmons became the first Bengal men's player to eclipse 2,000 career points. The program's all-time leading scorer, Simmons now has 2,015 points.

Nick Sarchioto (Duanesburg/Bishop Gibbons), who finished the game with 10 points and five rebounds.
Feb. 12th at Oswego, L 75-79
A late run by the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team fell short last Tuesday at Oswego, as the Red Dragons lost 79-75.
Oneonta trailed 76-63 with 2:57 remaining in the contest before scoring seven unanswered to cut the Lakers' lead to 76-70. The Lakers made a pair of free throws with 29 seconds left to bring the lead back to eight points at 78-70. Freshman
Dignan was fouled on a three-point attempt and converted all three foul shots to get the Red Dragons closer with 11 seconds remaining.
After a missed front end of a 1-and-1, sophomore
Kelly made a lay-up to get Oneonta to within three points with four seconds left.
Sophomore
Mager led four Oneonta players in double figures with 21 points. Junior

Zuvic each scored 17 points while Kelly added 12 points.
The two teams battled closely throughout the opening half. A three-point basket by Mager jump started a 11-0 run that gave the Red Dragons a 29-22 lead with 8:31 to go in the first half. Oswego outscored Oneonta 18-9 over the final eight minutes to carry a 40-38 lead into the break.
Women’s Basketball (12-12/9-8 SUNYAC)
Feb. 8th vs. Fredonia, W 55-40
Oneonta scored the first 13 points of last Friday night's game en route to a 55-40 win against Fredonia in SUNYAC women's basketball action. The win moves the Red Dragons to two games ahead of the Blue Devils in the battle for the final playoff spots for the conference tournament, which begins in 11 days.
Junior
Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford), who scored a collegiate high 23 points, tonight turned in the big game. Crawford was 7-of-10 from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
The game was never close, as Oneonta led by as many as 26 points with eight minutes remaining in the contest. Fredonia made the final score closer with its 13-2 final push to end the game.
Sophomore
Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) contributed 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks to the victory.
Feb. 9th vs. Buffalo State, W 59-43
The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team took another step to securing on of the six SUNYAC playoff spots last Saturday with its 59-43 win at home against Buffalo State. Oneonta captured its ninth conference win to move into the top six in the standings with two conference games remaining next week. The Red Dragons have won eight of its last 10 games overall.
Oneonta had three players in double figures led by junior
Grace Schilling (Northport/Northport)'s 16 points. Freshman
Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Junior
Kristin Pappalardo (Mahopac/Lakeland) came off the bench to score 13 points before fouling out with 59 seconds left.
Schilling converted a steal into a lay-up to give Oneonta a 41-31 lead at the 14:20 mark of the second half. Buffalo closed the gap to five points on a lay-in 7:13 remaining.
The Red Dragons seized control of the game at that point with a 9-1 spurt capped by a three-pointer and a pair of free throws by Pappalardo. Oneonta continued to increase its lead to 17 points at 57-40 with 1:14 to go.
Oneonta led for the entire first half, building a lead of 14 points on a lay-up by Schilling to give the Red Dragons a 27-13 lead. Schilling had five points and four steals in the opening 20 minutes.
Feb. 12th at Oswego, L 46-47
The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team had two shots to win in the waning seconds, but came up short, 47-46 at Oswego last Tuesday evening in SUNYAC action. The two teams were battling for a possible third seed in the upcoming conference tournament, as Oswego had a half-game lead over Oneonta entering tonight's contest.
The win for the Lakers put them in the driver's seat for the No. 3 spot with two games remaining while Oneonta must win to be in the mix for one of the six SUNYAC tournament spots.

Pappalardo with 21 seconds to go in the game cut Oswego's lead to 47-46.
On the ensuing possession, Oneonta fouled Jenn Robbins to put her at the line shooting 1-and-1. Robbins missed and freshman
Price grabbed the rebound with 17 seconds left before the Red Dragons called timeout with 10 seconds on the clock.

Kelly Mulligan (Pearl River/Pearl River) led Oneonta with 11 points while Price added 10 points and nine boards.
Oneonta's only lead tonight came on the game's first basket. The Red Dragons trailed 28-26 at halftime after shooting 34 percent and being outrebounded 23-15.
Men’s Track & Field
Feb. 9th at Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University
The SUNY Oneonta men’s track & field team is two weeks out from the SUNYAC championships, but continue to break school records along the way.
Senior
Sean Bernstein (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), sophomore
J.D. Roth (Pearl River/Nanuet) and freshman
Joe Fox (West Nyack/Clarkstown South) continued their assaults on the school record board, as all four eclipsed program marks. Roth broke his own record in individual events. Bernstein broke a mark from 2010 and Fox broke Roth's mark in the shot put set earlier this season.
Bernstein was second overall, but was the top collegiate finisher in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.87. His time broke the school record of 6.89 run by All-American Durell Cull on the same track in 2010. Bernstein, who is a 2012 All-American in the 60, is currently No. 3 on the NCAA Division III performance list.
Bernstein also teamed with freshmen
Joe Carr (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Tom Wheeler and
Micah Patterson (Plattsburgh/Saranac) to clock a time of 3:22.59 in the 4x400m relay, which has them at No. 12 in Division III.
Earlier in the meet, Wheeler and Patterson both ran ECAC qualifying times in finishing sixth and ninth respectively in the 400m run. Patterson ran a personal best time of 50.99.
Roth, who has dominated the 35-lb. weight throw, broke his own record in the event for the fourth time this season. Yesterday he went passed 17 meters for the first time and moved himself to No. 23 nationally in the event. His toss of 17.10m (56' 1 ¼”) sailed by his mark of 16.73m (54' 10 ¾”) set just a week ago at Ithaca. In the event, he finished third overall behind two Division I athletes.
Fox's performance of 15.87m (52' 1”) in the shot put was good enough for fifth place in the event. His distance was over 18 inches farther than Roth's mark of 50' 5 ¼” set at Cornell in the first meet of the season. His mark currently sits at No. 20 in Division III.
Other highlights from the meet included personal best marks, SUNYAC and ECAC qualifying performances by a number of individuals.
Freshman
Jake Alviene (East Greenbush/Columbia) continued his impressive rookie season with a fifth place finish in the 60m hurdles and a seventh place finish in the 200m. He was just shy of his school record of 8.15 in the hurdles, finishing in a time of 8.17.
Sophomore
Sean Mullen (East Nassau/Averill Park) had an ECAC qualifying performance in the triple jump of 13.64m (44' 9”).
Junior
Mitch Todorov (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) eclipsed the nine-minute mark for the first time and ran a personal best time of 8:59.10 in the 3000m run. His time was good enough to reach the SUNYAC qualifying mark.
Women’s Track & Field

Danielle Kennedy (Stony Point/Albertus Magnus) broke her own school record in an individual event. Kennedy set her mark in the 5000m run where she placed third overall. Her time of 17:47.65 was nearly five seconds faster than her previous mark set last year at Boston University. Her time was also good enough to reach the ECAC qualifying standard while putting her as the top performer in the SUNYAC in the event.
Other highlights from the meet included personal best marks, SUNYAC and ECAC qualifying performances by a number of individuals.
Junior
Kaitlyn Brandt (West Islip/West Islip) ran a personal best time in the 200m dash (26.56) while tying her PR in the 60 (8.08). Both performances were ECAC qualifying times.
Senior
Kate Parsons (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) had a personal best and ECAC qualifying performance in the 20-lb. weight throw. Her mark of 14.10m (46' 3 ¼”) was the first time she has gone past 14 meters.
Sophomore
Chelsea Christonikos (New City/Clarkstown South) ran a personal best and SUNYAC qualifying time in the 400m event. Her time of 1:02.79 was nearly one second faster than her previous mark set during the outdoor season last spring as a freshman.
Senior
Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) qualified for the SUNYAC meet in the 60m hurdles with her personal best time of 9.68.
Wrestling (7-11)
Feb. 10th at Quad Meet at Williams
vs. Wesleyan, L 9-36; vs. Williams, L 13-28; vs. Western New England, W 44-9
The SUNY Oneonta wrestlers traveled to Williams College last Sunday for a quad meet that was postponed from Saturday due to Winter Storm Nemo. The Red Dragons came away with a 1-2 record for the day, as they battled No. 12 Wesleyan, Western New England and the hosts.
Leading Oneonta was junior
Ben Mikac (Williamsville/Williamsville East) and freshman
Shaun Gillen (Bohemia/Connetquot), who both went 3-0 on the day. Mikac recorded two decisions and had a forfeit win in his three bouts while Gillen recorded a decision, a major decision and a tech fall.
Juniors
Chad Obzud (Troy/Lansingburgh) and
Dan Graff (LaGrangeville/Arlington) each recorded a pair of wins in their three bouts. Obzud pinned Dan Kuratnik of Williams in his second match of the day. Graff recorded a decision and a tech fall.
Oneonta will host RIT this coming Saturday in its final dual meet of the season. On Mar. 1-2, the Red Dragons will compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional qualifying tournament at WPI.
