SUNY Oneonta got 18 points from sophomore
Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) and 13 points and a team high eight boards from senior
Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford), but the Red Dragons dropped its first game of the season last Saturday at Rochester 60-55. The Red Dragons shot only 18 percent in the second half, which allowed the Yellowjackets to overcome an eight-point halftime deficit en route to the come-from-behind win.
A jumper by Price put Oneonta ahead, 47-39, with 9:30 left. The lead was still five, 48-43, when junior
Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) made the second of two free throw attempts. Rochester ran off nine straight points. It was 52-48 Rochester before Oneonta made a final push.
Price sank a three-pointer with 4:04 remaining, which was the last field goal of the game for Oneonta. Then
Bryn Loomis (Norwich/Norwich) made two free throws and Price made two more to nudge the Red Dragons ahead, 55-54, with 1:12 remaining.
A 3-pointer followed by an Oneonta missed shot led to a Yellowjacket making three of four from the line in the last 29 seconds to seal the win.
The Red Dragons got balanced scoring in the first half and opened a nine-point lead at the break, 35-26. Crawford scored eight points and
Grace Schilling (Northport/Northport) had seven plus three assists. Oneonta hit 43% from the floor (16 of 37). Rochester shot 39% from the floor (11-28) but was victimized on the boards (Oneonta held a 23-14 advantage) and committed nine turnovers.
A layup by Longto ended a 9-2 spurt midway through the first half and put Oneonta ahead, 19-8. Crawford's trey kept it at nine, 24-15, with less than seven minutes left. Rochester drew within five twice, the last time on a trey. Schilling and
Kelly Mulligan (Pearl River/Pearl River) made baskets for the nine-point halftime lead for the visitors.
Men’s Swimming & Diving (3-1)
Nov. 22nd & 23rd at North Country Invitational, 1st place with 691.5 points
The SUNY Oneonta men's swimming and diving team dominated the two-day North Country Invitational hosted by SUNY Potsdam en route to the team title. It is the fifth consecutive title for the men scoring 691.5 points, over 300 points ahead of the second place finisher, Clarkson.
The Red Dragons had several multi-event winners including seniors
Jermaine Miller (Elmira/Southside),
John Rein (Holbrook/Sachem North) and
Ryan Walsh (Wingdale/Arlington), junior
Colton Roe (Middletown/Pine Bush) and sophomores
Joseph Galan (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) and
Lucas Santiago (Amsterdam/Amsterdam).
Oneonta divers controlled the boards as they placed first through third on the 1-meter diving board and took the first four places in the 3-meter event. Miller continues his dominance in the diving events with his first place finish on the 1-meter while hitting the qualifying score with 331.75 points. Freshman
BBrendan Leahy (Warwick/Warwick Valley) placed second (236.25) and senior
Patrick Capriglione (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury) was third (218.60).
Miller repeated his performance in winning the 3-meter event as well. He scored 272.10 points. Capriglione took second with 213.75, freshman
James Giebler (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) was third (185.05) and Leahy took fourth (182.20).
The quartet of Roe, Galan, Walsh and Rein won both the medley relays. In the 400 yard medley relay, the group finished the event with a time of 3:34.89. The 200 yard medley relay was won in a time of 1:39.00.
Santiago along with Roe and Galan, each won two individual events during the two-days as well. Santiago placed first in both the butterfly events, touching the wall in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 53.50 and the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 1:58.70. Roe won both the backstroke events, finishing the 100 yard back in 52.65 and the 200 yard back in 1:55.22. Galan would sweep the IM events with a 1:58.34 and 4:13.37 in the 200 and 400 yard events respectively.
Junior
Daniel Donaghy (Holtsville/Sachem East) and Rein would each win an individual event. Rein won the 50 yard freestyle event in 22.53 while Donaghy would take first in the 1650 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 17:35.33.
Women’s Swimming & Diving (3-1)

The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving team dominated the two-day North Country Invitational hosted by SUNY Potsdam en route to winning the team title. The women won their tenth consecutive team championship scoring 545 points, over 100 points clear of the second place finisher.
Sophomore
Lauren Zentko (Glenville/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led the way with three first place finishes in individual events and was a member of two winning relays. She won the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.85), the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.51) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:46.81) to collect 48 points.
Other individual event winners were senior
Melissa Erickson (Silver Spring, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) in the 1650-yard freestyle (18:56.30) and juniors
Hillary Chocko (Queensbury/Queensbury) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.63) and
Kelly Ruf (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.56).
The women won three of the four relay events at the invitational, scoring 96 points in the process. The first relay to be won was 200-yard freestyle by the quartet of
Alexxa Poliachik (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield),
Sarah Greco (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun),
Taylor Waldrop (Fairport/Fairport) and
Chandler Shepard (Delhi/Delaware Academy) in a time of 1:42.11. Poliachik and Shepard would pair up with
Nicole DiFilippo (Danville,PA/Danville ) and Zentko to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.37. Waldrop, Greco, Zentko and Shepard would join up to take the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:47.26.
