Men’s Track & Field

Dec. 8th at Ithaca College Quad Meet
The SUNY Oneonta men’s track & field team competed this past Saturday at the non-scoring Ithaca College Quad Meet. Two weeks in and the Red Dragons continue to reach career best marks in many events as well as set school records.
Turning in his second record-setting performance of the season was sophomore J.D. Roth (Pearl River/Nanuet).  This week he grabbed the school record in the 35-lb. weight throw after last week soaring past the shot put record.  He now holds both indoor records in the throws.

Roth's distance of 16.59m (54' 5 ¼”) in the weight throw went over a foot farther than the old record of 53' 1 ½”) that was set at the SUNYAC championship in 2009 by Mike DeVasto.  His distance in the weight and his toss in the shot put of 15.25m were good enough to win both events.

Also, in the throws, sophomore Patrick Weinert (Schenevus/Schenevus) had personal best marks of 13.96m in the shot put and 16.15 in the weight throw, as he came in second and third respectively.

In the jumps, senior Dustin Cox (Pulaski/Pulaski) put himself at the top of the SUNYAC with a height of 1.93m (6' 4”) in the high jump while recording personal best marks in the long jump (6.45m) and 60-meter hurdles (8.74).

A week after setting the school record in the 60 hurdles, freshman Jake Alviene (East Greenbush/Columbia) was at it again, this time in the 200-meter dash.  His time of 22.43 was an ECAC qualifying time and puts him at the top of the SUNYAC in that event.  He also won the 60 hurdles in a time of 8.43.

Outdoor national champion and indoor All-American, Sean Bernstein (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), ran a time of 6.96 in winning the 60-meter dash.  His time was good enough for the ECAC meet as well as putting his No. 2 currently on the NCAA performance list.

Freshman Joe Carr (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) ran to a first place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 50.30.  His time made the ECAC mark while putting him third on the NCAA performance list for that event.
