Women’s Soccer (4-2/1-0 SUNYAC)
Sept. 18th vs. New Paltz, W 1-0
The Oneonta State women’s soccer team started its conference schedule on a strong note with a 3-0 victory against the New Paltz Hawks. The difference in play was shots on goal as Oneonta out shot New Paltz 18 to 3 last Saturday.
The Red Dragons controlled the tempo of the game with its strong defense lead by senior captain
Caitlin Burke (Manorville/Center Moriches) and quick offense lead by junior
Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa).
The ball barely broke midfield for New Paltz as the Red Dragons defense kept the Hawks to only one shot on goal in the first half, which allowed the Red Dragon offense to have their chances. With six shots on goal for Oneonta, speedster
Kori Hamm (Burlington Flats/Edmeston) only needed one to put the Red Dragons on the board, splitting the defense in the 39th minute of play putting them ahead 1-0 before the half.
Oneonta wasted no time in the second half putting the ball into the box. Sisters Dana and
Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) each started the half with a shot on goal in the first 30 seconds of play. Dana had three more shots on goal before it paid off. In the 76th minute of play, D. DeSimone, like Hamm, was able to dribble right past the defenders and the keeper to score easily in a wide open net.
With the Red Dragons up 2-0, DeSimone, Karly that is, also made her presence felt with an assist off the header goal by freshman
Mary Gray (Valley Cottage/Nyack) in the 86th minute of play to put the game away for Oneonta 3-0.
Sept. 19th vs. Williams, L 1-0
In a great match-up filled with physical play, great ball skills, and solid defense, Oneonta State women’s soccer fell short losing to Williams College 1-0 last Sunday. The NSCAA, as of September 14th, ranks Williams #7 in the country.
Oneonta came out trying to take control of the game early setting a faced pace tempo with two shots on goal by freshman DeSimone and senior
Nha Wright (Schenectady/Duanesburg) in the first six minutes of play. DeSimone and Wright led the Red Dragon offense to seven shots on goal but were unable to capitalize in the first half. In the 40th minute Williams had an opportunity but the ball smacked the right post, as keeper
Amy Lusby (West Babylon/N. Babylon) was able to recover and hold off Williams going into the half.
The second half was a more physical half as both teams started right off with a couple of quick fouls. Wright had a chance to score the first goal of the game as she crossed the ball towards the goal but it was one hop too far bouncing just wide of the post. Williams then began to show why they deserve the number seven ranking keeping their toughness and pressuring the Oneonta defense.
In the 72nd minute of play Williams marched down the field and into the box trying to find an open lane to shoot. During the flurry by Williams, senior captain
Erin Boyle (West Babylon/West Babylon) was knocked down and injured on the play, the Oneonta defense remained calm hitting it back towards the sideline. With Boyle down and the ball still in play Williams knew they had to capitalize and did, as the Red Dragons were outnumbered, an Eph redirected the ball and knocked it in the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
Goalkeeper Lusby had a career day with five great saves for the Red Dragons in the loss.

Skidmore didn’t take long to add to the scoreboard in the start of the second half. In the 36th minute of play a thoroughbred player found a loose ball off a rebound and put it away to put Skidmore up 2-0.
