SUNY Oneonta Athletics

Oneonta State closed their first ever year of competition with a small meet at Hartwick College.  Junior Lisa Johnson finished on a high note with a 4th place finish in the 100 meter high hurdles in a personal best time of :19.01.  The Red Dragons will enter official NCAA Division III, SUNYAC, and ECAC competition in the winter and spring of 2003.

University at Albany Spring Classic - Friday, May 10th, 2002

Despite fierce winds, Oneonta State had some good decent performances in placing 11th out of 16 teams with 17 points.  Freshman Ashlee Robertson placed 7th in the 200 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of :26.23.  She also placed 3rd in the 400 with a time of 1:01.77.  Hitting SUNYAC standards were freshman Jen Macri  in placing 15th in the 200 with a time of :29.56, senior Sara Snyder in placing 2nd in the 5,000 with a personal best time of 19:56.48, and sophomore Abby McQueeney Penamonte in placing 15th in the pole vault with a vault of 2.45 meters (8' 1/2").

The Penn Relays - Thursday & Friday, April 25th & 26th, 2002

Oneonta State had a great showing in their first ever trip to the Penn Relays.  Brooke Davis, Ashlee Robertson, Kelly Stevens, and Rose Velan placed 7th in their heat of the 4x400 meter relay on Thursday.  Their time of 4:07.99 knocked more than 6 seconds off of their own school record, which was set two weeks ago at West Point.  The same quartet came back on Friday and placed 9th in their heat of the 4x200 meter relay in a time of 1:51.32.  You can view the races at www.TrackMeets.com.

Hartwick College Invitational - Saturday, April 20th, 2002

The Red Dragons racked up more qualifiers for SUNYAC's and ECAC's when they battled cross town rival Hartwick.  The athlete of the day was clearly freshman Ashlee Robertson, who placed 2nd in both the 100 and 200, while running ECAC qualifying times of :13.13 and :26.98, respectively.  She also led off the victorious 1,600 meter relay team with Kelly Stevens, Holly Bisbee, and Rose Velan in a time of 4:17.48.  Stevens also added to the ECAC qualifying with a 2nd place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.92.

Ithaca College Invitational - Saturday, April 6th, 2002

Despite bitter cold and blustery conditions at Ithaca College, Oneonta State got some surprisingly good performances.  Sophomore Abby McQueeney Penamonte vaulted her way to a new personal best in winning the pole vault.  She cleared 2.24 meters (7' 4 1/4") in bettering her qualifying mark for SUNYAC's.  Sophomores Rose Velan and Kelly Stevens also reached the SUNYAC standards again in the 400 meters (3rd place - :63.6) and 1500 meters (2nd - 5:08.4), respectively.  Velan teamed with freshmen Ashlee Roberston, Jill Mastrella, and Brooke Davis in placing second in the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 53.0.  Robertson also hit the SUNYAC standard again in placing 4th in the 200 meters (:27.2).  New SUNYAC qualifiers included senior Sara Snyder, who ran a personal best of 5:19.4 in placing 5th in the 1500 meters, freshman Jill Mastrella in the 200 meters with a time of 29.1 (10th place), freshman Kristin Miltenberg in the discus with a throw of 28.98 meters (95' 1") good for 7th place, and senior Autumn Koich in the hammer with a throw of 28.23 meters (92' 7") good for 3rd place.

Battleground Relays @ Mary Washington College - Saturday, March 30th, 2002

The Red Dragons finished their 10 day southern trip at the Battleground Relays in Fredericksburg, VA at Mary Washington College.  Leading the charge for the Red Dragons was freshman Ashlee Robertson and sophomore Abby McQueeney Penamonte.  Both hit the SUNYAC qualifying standards in their respective events.  Robertson ran :13.55 in her heat of the 100 meters and McQueeney Penamonte vaulted 7' 0" on the pole vault.  They also teamed with freshman Carol Tichio and sophomore Jessica Tylutki in placing 10th in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:37.8.

Disney's Track & Field Showcase - Saturday, March 23rd, 2002

Oneonta State began it's inaugural season of women's outdoor track & field at the Disney Track & Field Showcase in Orlando, FL.  Leading the charge for the Red Dragons was freshman Ashlee Robertson.  She placed 7th in the 400 meters with a time of :62.52 and 9th in the 200 meters with a time of :27.42.  Both times hit the SUNYAC qualifying standards.  She also led off the 3200 meter relay team which placed 4th in a time of 10:56.50.  She was joined on that team by senior Sara Snyder, sophomore Jessica Tylutki, and freshman Carol Tichio.  Tichio finished off the day for the Red Dragons with a 15th place finish in the 200 meters with a time of :29.67, which hit the SUNYAC standard.

INDOOR

The Red Dragons completed their inaugural season with a solid showing at Plattsburgh.  Freshman Ashlee Robertson won both the 55 and 200 meters.  Freshman Brooke Davis won the Long Jump in an ECAC qualifying jump of 16' 5 3/4" and the Triple Jump in a SUNYAC qualifying jump of 32' 11 3/4".  She also placed 3rd in the 55 with a SUNYAC qualifying run of :07.99.  Sophomore Kelly Stevens also hit the ECAC standard.  She won the 1500 meter run in a time of 5:00.74.  Also hitting SUNYAC standards were senior Sara Snyder in the 3000 meters (2nd - 11:55.11) and sophomore Abby McQueeney Penamonte who won the Pole Vault in a vault of 7' 1/4".  Oneonta State will open it's outdoor season on March 23rd at the Disney Track & Field Showcase in Orlando, Florida.

Robert Kane Invitational @ Cornell University - Saturday, February 9th, 2002

Three Red Dragons hit the ECAC qualifying standards as well as the SUNYAC standard at Cornell.  Sophomore Rose Velan started the day off with an impressive 4th place finish in the 500 meters.  Her time of 1:22.51 easily bettered the ECAC standard of 1:24.75 and the SUNYAC standard of 1:30.24.  Sophomore Kelly Stevens followed suite with a 4th place finish of her own in the 1000 meters.  Her time of 3:08.44 was well ahead of the ECAC standard of 3:12.94 and the SUNYAC standard of 3:25.24.  Freshman Ashlee Robertson finished off the ECAC qualifying by winning her heat in the 200 meters and placing 5th overall.  Her time of :26.96 bettered the ECAC standard of :27.44 and the SUNYAC standard of :31.24.  Freshman Brooke Davis joined Robertson in the 200 meters.  She placed 23rd in a SUNYAC qualifying time of :28.49.  Freshmen Jen Macri also hit the SUNYAC standard.  She won her heat in the 400 meters and placed 19th overall in a time of 1:05.71.  Robertson, Davis, Macri, and Velan teamed to finish 4th in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 4:17.30.

Syracuse University Invitational - Sunday, February 3rd, 2002

The Red Dragons continued the improvement trend in the non-scoring Syracuse Invitational.  The highlight of the day was the ECAC qualifying performance of the Distance Medley Relay which placed 3rd in a time of 13:03.31, well under the standard of 13:20.24.  Rose Velan led off in the 1200 meter leg in 3:56.1 and handed to Ashlee Robertson who ran the 400 leg in 62.6.  She handed the baton to Jen Macri who ran the 800 leg in 2:33.1, and she passed the stick to anchor leg, Kelly Stevens, who ran the final 1600 meters in 5:31.3.  Stevens also hit the SUNYAC Qualifying Standard in the 800 meters, as well as Lisa Johnson in 55 meter HH-:10.44, and Brooke Davis in the Long Jump-14' 10 1/4".  Velan, Macri, and Robertson teamed up with Davis to conclude the meet with a 3rd place finish in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 4:17.89.

St. Lawrence University Indoor Track Classic - Saturday, January 26th, 2002

Oneonta State placed 5th with 27 points.  They were led by sophomore Kelly Stevens, who placed second in the 800 meters in a SUNYAC qualifying time of 2:29.83.  Sophomore Rose Velan also had a good day in running a PR in the 400 meter dash (1:02.59) while placing 4th.  She and Stevens teamed with freshmen Jill Mastrella and Jen Macri for the 4x400 meter relay which placed second in 4:23.4.  Mastrella also hit the SUNYAC standard in the 200 meters with a time of :29.41.  Senior Autumn Koich also hit the SUNYAC standard with a throw of 30' 9" in placing 6th in the women's 20 lb. weight throw.

The Red Dragons placed 4th with 64 points in the first meet of 2002.  The highlight of the day was the 2nd place finish by sophomore Rose Velan in the 400 meters.  In her first ever track race, Rose ran 1:05.40 and hit the SUNYAC qualifying mark.  She also teamed with Kelly Stevens, Carol Tichio, and Jessica Tylutki for the 4x800 meter relay team which placed 3rd in a time of 11:02.83.
