NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's swimming & diving team fell 107.50-93.50 to New Paltz on Saturday afternoon, with the Red Dragons winning two individual events and one relay on the day.
Senior Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/) won the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:20.94. Sophomore Russell Cheng (Westchester, NY/Ardsley)Â finished third at 12:23.08.
In the 200-yard freestyle, senior Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central) placed second at 1:57.45, while junior Gavin Weseman (Olean, NY/Olean) swam a 1:58.66 for third overall. Senior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) grabbed second in the 50-yard freestyle at 23.03. Junior Nick Rhodes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) took second in the 200-yard IM at 2:05.97. He then won the 200-yard backstroke at 2:12.89. Junior Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany) was second in the 100-yard freestyle at 50.73.
Weseman finished second in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:34.05, while freshman Brendan Kliment (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) placed third at 5:50.35.
Oneonta closed the day by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay. Martinelli, Weseman, Cheng, and Tyrrell won at 3:26.08.
Oneonta next competes at the SUNYAC Championships from February 18 to 21.
