Oneonta Competes Against Cortland on Senior Day

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's swimming & diving teams hosted Cortland for its senior day meet on Friday evening, with Oneonta falling 131-86. Oneonta won three events and capped off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

During the meet, Oneonta recognized their graduating class of Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/), David Scott (South Ozone Park, NY/), Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School), and Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central).

The 200-yard medley relay of Scott, junior Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany), sophomore Dylan Harrison (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa), and freshman Caleb Doney (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) placed third at 1:48.63.

Junior Gavin Weseman (Olean, NY/Olean) placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal best of 1:55.26. He went on to earn third in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:35.66.

Sophomore Bastion Dudley swam a 2:01.72 for fifth, and freshman Brendan Kliment (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) took sixth at 2:09.95.

Scott earned third in the 50-yard freestyle at 24.24.

In the 200-yard IM, Heaney grabbed third at 2:13.35. Tyrrell won the 100-yard butterfly at 52.67, while Hitzschke took third at 56.90.

Oneonta continued with a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle from Martinelli at 51.18. Junior Nick Rhodes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) took first in the 100-yard backstroke at 54.16.

Oneonta went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Heaney winning at 1:06.52. Dudley took second at 1:09.44, and junior Matt Cleveland (Binghamton, NY/Union Endicott/ Endicott) finished third at 1:18.44.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of Hitzschke, Martinelli, Rhodes, and Tyrrell placed first at 1:30.06.

Sophomore Ben Heyman (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) placed third in the one-meter dive (five dives) at 127.30 points and placed second in the one-meter (six dives) with 225.30.

Oneonta concludes the regular season at New Paltz on Saturday, January 31 at 1 p.m.
