OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's basketball team came up short on the road in their SUNYAC contest to Oswego State, 64-52, Tuesday evening. Oneonta was leading after the first quarter, then Oswego controlled the glass and got to the free throw line to gain the upper hand for the rest of the game. The Red Dragons moved to 8-7 on the season, 3-5 in the SUNYAC, and the Lakers improved to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Lidia Boucher (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) had the team-high 17 points, including two three-pointers, and five rebounds, while freshman
Sydney Pleat (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) shot 4-for-7 from the floor, 3-for-4 from deep, to finish with 11 points. Freshman
Tyalia Fret-Thom (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) recorded seven points with two steals, and junior
Megan Desrats (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) had six points and the game-high six assists.

Skye Cameron-Pressley (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) came off the bench early and knocked down a pair of midrange jumpers, then Fret-Thom grabbed a defensive rebound and went the length of the court for the lay in that tied the game, 6-6, at 5:50. After Boucher split a pair at the line, Pleat drained her first three of the contest at 3:56. The Lakers tied the game back up before the Red Dragons closed out the first quarter with a 7-0 stretch for a 17-10 lead. Addy Eckert (Bloomville, NY/South Kortright) scored on a second chance basket. Pleat closed it out with her second trey of the night off a pass from Desrats.
Oswego started to climb back in the second quarter and tied the game at 22 with 4:16 to go in the period. Out of a timeout, Boucher drained a deep two to regain the edge, however the Lakers closed out the half on an 8-2 run to take a 30-26 lead.
The Red Dragon senior tied the game with a midrange jump shot and two at the line at 8:11, then the Lakers answered with an 11-2 stint to go up 41-32 at 2:21. Sophomore
Leela Guobadia (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) ended the run with a contested shot underneath the basket, and Young made two at the line shortly after, however Oswego went into the fourth quarter ahead 44-36.
Cameron-Pressley found Desrats in the corner for a jumper to cut the Red Dragons deficit to six, until the Lakers scored seven unanswered to take a 51-38 lead with 7:15 to play. Boucher and Pleat each drilled a trey to pull Oneonta within seven with 5:33 left, but Oswego's Zhane Holmes made a jumper and a three-pointer to regain a 12-point lead, 58-46, at 4:40. Oneonta got back to within eight points at 3:43 with a free throw from freshman
Kayla Beaudoin (Brunswick, NY/Tamarac) and a Boucher triple, then Oswego closed out the game with a 6-2 run.
Oneonta shot 27.9 percent from the floor, 30.0 percent (6-for-20) from three-point range, and 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from the free throw line. The Red Dragons finished with a 13-9 edge in points off turnovers and 24-15 in bench points. Oswego finished 36.1 percent from the field, 13.3 percent (2-for-15) from deep, and 81.8 percent (18-for-22) from the free throw line. The Lakers finished with a 56-35 rebounding advantage, and a 17-9 margin in second chance points. Holmes led Oswego with the game-high 18 points, while Giavanna White-Principio finished with 11 points, 15 rebounds, and six blocks.
The Red Dragons are back in Dewar Arena for their next SUNYAC game on Friday, January 23, versus Plattsburgh starting at 5:30 pm.
