Cintron Receives SUNYAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week Honors

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta men's soccer junior James Cintron (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) was named the SUNYAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for September 1-7, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. Cintron manned the net for Oneonta and recorded 12 saves, two shutouts, and was named the Mayor's Cup Defensive MVP as the Red Dragons went 2-0-1 on the week.

He started the week off with six saves in a 1-1 draw to Skidmore. In the team's 1-0 victory against King's College, Cintron ended the game with two saves, including a crucial diving stop in the 84th minute to hold onto the win. In the Mayor's Cup final against UMass Boston, the junior goalkeeper recorded three saves in the second half and totaled four overall for the Red Dragons 2-0 win over the Beacons. Cintron currently has 14 saves on the season for a .875 save percentage, and he has allowed 0.50 goals per game for a 3-0-1 record.

Oneonta (3-0-1) is on the road for their next match on Saturday, September 13, when they head to Vassar for a non-conference match at 2 pm.
