CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta baseball season came to an end with a 16-1 loss to Cortland in the SUNYAC Tournament championship round on Sunday morning. Cortland (29-11) hammered in 16 runs, while holding Oneonta (25-17-1) to five total hits.
Cortland's Dylan Beers struck out three Oneonta batters in the top of the first. At the bottom of the frame, Cortland scored four runs, with Marc Stockhausen doubling in a run. Zachary Kringdon drove in a run off a single through the right side. Cortland scored on two errors to push the lead to 5-0.
Neither side scored until Cortland added five runs in the fourth inning. Adam Mieczkowski doubled in two runs to push the lead to 9-0. Cortland added two in the fifth and another two in the sixth.
Oneonta brought in its lone run in the eighth from a home run by junior Brendan Duffy (Southold, NY/Southold Jr./Sr.).
Beers (4-0) went 3.0 innings with two hits and five strikeouts.
