CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta baseball team fell to Cortland 5-3 to wrap up the season series. Oneonta falls to 16-9-1 overall and 6-3 in the SUNYAC, while Cortland moves to 17-10 and 8-3 in the conference.
Junior Nick Jacoby (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) led off with a single to get Oneonta started in the first inning. Senior Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) singled to put runners on first and second. Senior Joey Dwyer (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) followed with a single to bring both runners home. Senior Logan Hutter (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/Smithtown) singled up the middle to bring Dwyer home and take a 3-0 lead.
Oneonta took Cortland out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the frame, with senior pitcher James Torres (North Salem, NY/North Salem) striking out one batter.
Cortland scored in the bottom of the third when Marc Stockhausen doubled in two runners to cut the lead to 3-2. Cortland scored again in the fourth, with Adam Mieczkowski hitting a home run down the left-field line to tie 3-3.
Neither team scored until the seventh inning, when Cortland added two more runs. Zachary Kringdon hit a two-RBI home run to make it 5-3. Oneonta was held to one hit for the remainder of the game as Cortland secured the win.
Dwyer finished the game batting 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one stolen base. Hutter was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Kringdon was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Mieczkowski added two hits and an RBI. Talon Elkins batted 3-for-4 with one run.
Torres pitched 5.0 innings with six hits, three runs, and two strikeouts. Senior Tom Roefaro (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) went 2.0 innings with two hits, two runs, and two strikeouts.
Nick Jessen pitched 4.1 innings with six hits, three runs, and two strikeouts. Brady Mazzeo finished the game with 4.2 innings and four strikeouts.
Oneonta next plays at Union on Tues. Apr. 15 at 4 p.m.
