CLINTON, N.Y. - The Oneonta baseball team secured an 8-4 win over Hamilton on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Dragons move to 12-6-1 overall, while the Continentals fall to 9-8.
Oneonta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. A shortstop throwing error allowed senior Alex Wurster (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) to score. Hamilton answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Lucas Herman singled in a run from Greg Kopp, and a double from Alfonso Park brought in the second run to take a 2-1 lead.
The Continentals added another run in the third, with Michael Tallarida hitting a home run to right-center field.
Oneonta fought back in the fourth innings, with the Red Dragons putting runners on first and third. Freshman Ryan Cronin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) brought in a run from senior Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) to cut the lead to 3-2. Senior Logan Hutter (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/Smithtown) grounded out, but Cronin reached home to tie. Senior Joey Dwyer (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) followed by stealing home to retake the lead at 4-3. Freshman Joseph Monserrat (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) singled home a run from junior Brendan Duffy (Southold, NY/Southold Jr./Sr.) to go up by two runs.
Hutter doubled in runs from Dwyer and senior Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) in the fifth to push the advantage to 7-3. Cronin added an RBI single in the seventh. Hamilton scored on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to fourth. In the final two innings, freshman Zachary Rowe (Hudson, NY/Taconic Hills) held the Continentals to one hit while striking out two batters.
Cronin finished the day going 3-for-6 with two RBI and one run. Hutter added a hit with three RBI.
Tallarida went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Senior Logan Kaufman (Hobart, NY/South Kortright) picked up the win, going 1.0 innings with one hit and one run.
Oneonta returns to SUNYAC play on Fri. Apr. 4 to host Canton at 3 p.m.
