AUBURNDALE, FL - The Oneonta baseball team tied 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Keystone rattled off an eight-run ninth to secure a 15-4 win on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 4-4 overall, while the Giants move to 7-2.
Keystone struck in the first with three hits and two runs. Robert Estrada led off with a single, and a Nate Ewing single put runners on first and second. A Jacob Yager double brought in the opening run, and Ewing reached home on a ground out to third base to take the 2-0 lead.
The Red Dragons answered in the bottom of the frame with a lead-off double from junior Nick Jacoby (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown). Senior Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) singled, and a pitch hit senior Joey Dwyer (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) to load the bases. Senior Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) doubled in two runs to tie.
Neither side scored again until the sixth inning, with senior pitcher Kyle Roper (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) striking out six Giants.
Keystone finally broke through, with Yager doubling in a run and Carlos Pascual hitting an RBI sacrifice fly to take a 4-2 lead. The Red Dragons evened things again in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Logan Hutter (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/Smithtown) hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a run from Dwyer, and Foglia scored on a passed ball to make it 4-4.
Keystone tacked on three runs in the eighth, with Pascual hitting a two-RBI double. Andy Rivas singled in a run to push the lead to 7-4.
It was all Keystone in the ninth, with the Giants capitalizing on bases-loaded walks to bring in three runs. A two-RBI sacrifice fly capped the game over with the double-digit victory.
Jacoby and Gilkey each recorded two hits and one run. Foglia added one hit, one run, and two RBI.
Ewing went 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBI. Yager was 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.
Roper went 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts, eight hits, and four runs.
Drew Sorrentino pitched the final 4.1 innings, struck out nine batters, and allowed no hits.
