ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta women's basketball junior
Carlie Young (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville Central) was awarded the SUNYAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week honor for the week of November 17-23, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. Young scored a career-high in a single game and finished the week averaging 21.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and a steal, while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from three, and 87.5 percent from the line. She led the Red Dragons to a 2-0 week in the Oneonta & Hartwick Classic, where she was named the tournament's MVP and to the All-Tournament team.
The Baldwinsville, N.Y. native started off with a double-double and posted a career-high 31 points with 13 rebounds, two steals, and a block in a 74-69 overtime win against Eastern Connecticut State. Young's 31-point performance is tied for the sixth-best in program history, tying Anne Donnery (Dec. 14, 1979 vs. Brookyln) and Lyteshia Price (Nov. 17, 2015 vs. Utica).
The Red Dragon forward then helped Oneonta defeat Hamilton by scoring nine points in a 19-6 fourth quarter run to finish with 11 points and seven boards for the Red Dragons 59-52 victory. Young is currently fifth in the conference in points per game (19.0) and fourth in rebounds per game (9.5).
The Red Dragons (3-1) are back on the court on Friday, December 5, at New Paltz for the start of SUNYAC play at 5:30 pm.
