ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Cortland on Tuesday afternoon. An early second-half goal gave Cortland the victory. Oneonta concludes the season at 4-8-4 overall and 2-4-3 in the SUNYAC, while Cortland claims the regular season title at 12-2-4 and 8-0-1 in the conference.
Senior goalkeeper Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) stopped shots from Piper Klammer and Tyla Vuotto in the third and 25th minutes to keep Cortland off the board. All five of the following Cortland shots were on-goal attempts, but Meehan saved them all. Oneonta was held without a shot, but was able to keep it 0-0 heading into halftime.
Cortland found the back of the net on a corner kick. Katie Diem crossed the ball to Vuotto, who scored at 51:47 to make it 1-0.
The Oneonta offense picked up late in the half with senior Karsyn Kondracki (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) firing on goal at 77:36, but Cortland goalie Olivia ROuse made the save. Senior Tara Nicholson (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy) took a long-range shot at 82:54, and junior Brenna Mast (Croghan, NY/Beaver River) struck the crossbar at 86:21. Senior Kaiden Ring (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) collected the rebound, but her shot sailed high. Junior Emma Parente (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) took two final shots with Rouse making a clutch save at 87:03 to complete the shutout.
Cortland outshot Oneonta 13-7 and held a 9-3 corner kick advantage.
Meehan finished with nine saves, while Rouse had three.
