ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's swimming & diving team faced Oswego on Saturday afternoon, falling 132-89 to the Lakers in the Chase PE Pool. Overall, the Red Dragons took first in five events.
The meet opened with the 200-yard medley relay that saw seniors Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central), Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/), Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School), and junior Nick Rhodes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) take first at 1:39.18.
Tyrrell won the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:50.69, and Heaney was fourth at 1:57.44.
In the 50-yard freestyle relay, junior Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany) swam a 22.45 to finish third overall. He went on to take third in the 100-yard freestyle at 50.73. Senior Maddox Aramini (Cooperstown, NY/Cherry Valley-Springfield) touched fourth at 52.07.
Tyrrell took his third win of the day in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.50. Rhodes cruised to a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:23.19, while junior Colin Ringwood (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was fifth at 5:42.34.
Heaney was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:06.40.
Oneonta's 200-yard freestyle relay of Hitzschke, Aramini, Martinelli, and sophomore Russell Cheng (Westchester, NY/Ardsley) placed second at 1:31.76.
Sophomore Ben Heyman (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) placed first in the one-meter dive with 180.05 points.
Oneonta next travels to face RPI on Saturday, October 25, at 1 p.m.
