Haley and Serena Tabbed NFCA All-Region

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Two Red Dragons from the SUNY Oneonta softball team received the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region III honors. Senior Delaney Haley (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) and junior Julia Serena (White Plains, N.Y./Valhalla) both garnered third team selections, Haley was named as an outfielder and Serena was a utility/designated player selection. All-Region players are voted for by the coaches in their region and ultimately selected by elected All-American committee members to receive the accolade.

This is the third straight year Serena was named NFCA All-Region III. In her freshman season, Serena earned second team status then made the All-Region first team last year. It is Haley's second consecutive season gaining All-Region recognition, last season she was named to the second team. Both players were selected to the All-SUNYAC first team earlier this month.

Haley started all 39 games for the Red Dragons and led the SUNYAC in runs scored (40), stolen bases (29) and was fourth in the conference while leading the team with a .420 batting average. She totaled two doubles and nine RBI. The 29 stolen bases ranked 43rd in the NCAA Division III and broke the Oneonta softball record for stolen bases in a season. The speedy Levittown, N.Y. native also became the program's all-time leader in stolen bases with 58. Haley's offensive production and success led to her earning the conference's Julie Lenhart Co-Player of the Year award, the second Red Dragon in program history to win the award.

Serena started and played 38 games for Oneonta at catcher and first base. She led the SUNYAC with seven home runs, 45 RBI and was second in the conference with a .658 slugging percentage. Serena led the team with nine doubles and was second with a .368 batting average, totaling two triples and scoring 16 runs. Defensively, the White Plains, N.Y. native had a .972 fielding percentage and caught a SUNYAC-high nine runners stealing bases. Serena broke numerous program records this season including career home runs (currently at 19), most RBI in a single season (45), tied the career RBI record (114) and is on pace to be the program leader in career slugging percentage (currently first at .656).

Oneonta finished the season 22-17 overall, 13-5 in conference play, and finished fourth in the SUNYAC tournament.
